Nutrigenomics refers to how our genes impact our need for nutrients and how our food interacts with our health. It’s a big word but ultimately it just translates to a personalised approach to nutrition.

This package is designed to look at a few specific genes that may change our nutrient requirements.
It combines DNA testing with a nutrition consultation to help you optimise your wellbeing.
The package includes:

1x Nutrigenomic DNA test
1× 60-minute video consultation with clinical nutritionist Eva Humphries to discuss and intelligently action the results

What’s the big deal about nutrigenomics?
Our genes are just recipes for how our bodies are made.
Genes will code for nuances like eye colour, height, how quickly you get drunk from alcohol and much more.
In the same way, our genes also determine our requirement for nutrients and how we handle toxins. This can vary considerably from person to person.
Depending on which version of a gene we have, we may have an increased need for certain nutrients.
Here are a few examples:

MTHFR - this gene can mean we need more folate or do badly with folic acid supplements
VDR - this gene may mean we cannot absorb Vitamin D from the sun or have a hard time deriving calcium from food
COMT - this gene can drive irritability, anxiety and poor stress response to seemingly healthy foods and/or supplements. Individuals with a specific variety of COMT may also struggle to detoxify parabens found in everyday products such as moisturisers.
BCMO1 - may increase Vitamin A need

Knowing this information is a very useful (and extremely nerdy) tool that may help us optimise our wellbeing.
